Mayflower Compact: better order, preservation, and achievement of “these goals”

Two weeks ago, we drew inspiration from the faith of the Pilgrims as they crossed the stormy Atlantic for a new land. Their amazing journey holds powerful insights for America's renewal.

Finding themselves outside Virginia's colony and its charter, they knew they needed to create their own government.

Landing north of Virginia was seen as providential — this pioneering spirit and steadfast faith can guide us today.

They formed a legal instrument that bound the Pilgrims together. It was first called the Mayflower Compact later in 1793.

Here is a paraphrase of the Mayflower Compact in today’s English:

“In the name of God, Amen. We, the undersigned loyal subjects of our revered King James of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, by God's grace, have embarked on this journey for the glory of God, the advancement of the Christian faith, and the honor of our King and country. We aim to establish the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia.

“We do hereby solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God and each other, covenant and combine ourselves into a civil body politic for better order, preservation, and achievement of these goals. By this agreement, we establish and enact just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and officers as deemed necessary for the general good of the colony, to which we pledge our submission and obedience.”

Here’s prayer architecture from the Mayflower compact …

⭐️ Father God, may the American journey continue to be for your glory and bigger story. We invoke your sovereign care and guidance over this country.

⭐️ Father, by the power of your Spirit, use the American Church for the advancement of the Christian faith in the nations of the earth.

⭐️ God, we as a people can only live out your destiny for America with your presence and involvement. We invoke your presence.

⭐️ Father, continue to shape and renew our civil body politic. Grant us peace and societal order.

⭐️ We ask for a better ordering, preservation, and achievement of American ideals.

Amen. Father, we believe in our heart that we have received, and we count it done. We are grateful.

🎆 Prayer on the American pulse

⭐️ Pray for new leadership and strengthening of the U.S. Secret Service. Principal leaders have to be protected for democracy to work. Pray over the investigation for truth and justice. Article at IFA.

⭐️ Stand in faith against political violence.

⭐️ Pray for the integrity of national, state, and local elections. Insist in faith that the election will occur this fall and that nothing will stop it.

⭐️ Even now, pray that God will sway the judgment of the American body politic and that his design will be realized on American soil as it is in heaven.
